I Murmured

Dear God, Thy child did murmur.
      She embraced discontent,
Dissatisfied with others,
      With her lot by Thee sent.

She did not count her blessings.
       She did not see that Thou
Had showered her with goodness,
      With mercy did endow.

Until she was awakened
       To see another’s woe,
To stand beside a sister,
      Her deeper sorrows know.

And thus Thy child was humbled,
      Ashamed of discontent,
She bows in deep submission;
      To Thy will she is bent.
