Text Sermons

Between 480 and 440 BC, scribe Ezra stood on a pulpit to preach (Neh 8: 4-6). We cannot hear him but can read a text version, i.e., Nehemiah 8. Jesus spoke the most famous sermon (on the mount) over 2000 years ago. We read the summary in Mathew 5-7. Luke 6 has the famous sermon on the plain in plain text. The oldest known (not on par with scripture) may be the second Clement possibly written at the turn of the first century. Thousands of text sermons by Whitefield, Wesley, Booth, J Edwards (including Sinners in the hands of an angry God 1741 AD) and even Moody, Spurgeon (whose written sermons have led to countless conversions to Christ) exist today.
