Richard Baxter, who lived from 1615 to 1691, was known as the Peacemaker who sought to bring unity among Protestants. As such he stood out as a churchman in England in the 1600’s. Whenever controversies occurred, he was sure to be called in to negotiate differences. Surprisingly Baxter was mostly self-taught as his parents did not value education. He eventually studied Divinity and was ordained at 23 as a minister in the Church of England. Baxter was also known for his writings. We are privileged to be able to access the written text of many of his writings today.
